Perhaps we're back to weekly reporting- and now that I've located my camera cord after the move I can even begin posting pictures again!
I'm sure you're all glad.
Today has been the first toe dip into Sonlight. We are doing Core D&E- the condensed US History one.
I think it's going really well. Sweet Pea is into all the reading and read alouds, and Little Bird is happily along for the ride. So far there's been no bickering over what to do next, either!
We're classically educating our children- a ten daughter, Sweet Pea, a seven year old daughter, Little Bird, a five year old boy, Moose, and a two year old boy, Cuddlebug. We live in south east Wyoming.

Nature on TV
Microcosmos is on Netflix instant. It focuses in on the tinier inhabitants of our world, mostly insects.
My girls really liked it! It's amazing how rich and diverse insect life can be.

Bragging
Am I a braggy person? I don't think so. I try to state things in a factual or neutral way, but I'm open to the notion that things sound differently in my mind then they do in type.
We've all had that happen, right?
It's especially tough when I'm trying to discuss homeschool plans outside the norm.
You'd think homeschoolers would be really open to the notion that things happen in fits and spurts, but I haven't always experienced that.
Sometimes we're an outlier, even in the homeschooling community.

Sonlight and a switch?
A very, VERY kind mama friend sent me a complete Sonlight core- D&E combined, with the extra books from each.
I've been poring over it and... I love it. Sonlight has appealed to me for a long time, but the cost has put me off.
I don't have that excuse now.
It's a regular switch-a-roo around here lately, and I apologize for it. There's no consistency, although each step seems to be bringing us to something new and better. And more mainstream in many ways.
This really appeals to Sweet Pea's love of reading and my love of scheduling.
Anyone use Sonlight?

PE
Sweet Pea starts the second session of swimming this week. Over the summer she took swimming at the community college and "graduated" into the higher class.
Our homeschool group also offers soccer, but I am unsure if we will join or not.

The Merchant of Venice
The reaction of my girls after me reading this to them was not what I think they were supposed to get out of it.
They mostly had comments about how weird it was.
Methinks Shakespeare may need a titch more preparation. Or different choices.
Wow.

I'm dropping spelling
For Sweet Pea.
There, I admitted it.
We aren't doing a spelling curriculum. She's a good speller and I feel like we're hitting LA really well with Classical Writing, Prima Latina, and Ambleside.
So there. I've fessed up. :)

OK, I think this is it
We don't have all our stuff. I'm not quite ready.
But I think it's time.
We're starting this school year on Monday.
Gulp.
